things i only wear when im alone

There’s this fake fur leopard coat in the back of my closet. Every time I pass by it, I think “you are literally everything” — and then I keep walking and put on the hoodie I always wear.

Same with these huge gold earrings I thrifted, or the little mesh gloves I bought after watching one too many reruns of Sex and the City. I love them. I love how they make me feel. But I never wear them out. Not even to the grocery store.

But when I’m alone? Oh I wear them. I do a full look. Maybe it’s the coat. Maybe it’s the gloves and the earrings and the little bag that doesn’t really hold anything. I’ll literally stand in my room like I’m about to step out for a martini, even though I’m just heating up leftover pasta.

It’s funny. I’ll dress how I want to feel when there’s no one around to see it. Like the truest version of me lives behind closed doors in a full Carrie Bradshaw closet moment. She’s confident. She’s fun. She makes weird combos look intentional.

Lately, I’ve been trying to take her out more. Even just a little. Like yes, I wore the coat to 7-Eleven last week. Small wins.

Anyway. If you’ve got something in your closet you almost wore today, maybe just… wear it next time. For you.
